I ordered this lantern -- a pair, actually -- soon after having purchased a similar if not 'same as' pair of lanterns from another manufacturer. These cost less per item, provide better light, and all functions work without struggling to find out how.
The top can be removed to reveal the bulb and the lantern hung upside down from inside (e.g.) a tent or small darkened room, such as in a remote cabin with an attached bunkroom.
Also, these items are properly sized and enclosed in plastic, features that make them attractive for campers and other sportsmen and families, including the hiker: a lantern can be conveniently packed in a three-day pack without taking up too much room or being uncomfortable: the lantern is light and provides light.

I used this at Burning Man (2012) and found it to be really helpful. It served as a light at night for our carport/shade area which was also our kitchen, and helped a lot when packing up at night before we left. One set of batteries lasted the whole trip (about a week) and we used it quite a bit at night.
It also has a little blinking green light that helps you locate it in the dark, and has a blink mode which would probably be great as a warning light if you were stuck by the side of the road, etc.
