This will boost your video score under the WEI (Windows Experience Index from 4.7 to 4.9. If you add 2 new modules using faster PC3-12800 RAM your WEI for RAM speed will jump from 5.9 to 7.4. The motherboard is quite good, see the comments below this review. Do not mismatch RAM module speeds or sizes! No additional boost to video score. + Better than average display quality - can view the entire screen out to the corners without "darkening;" videos have a "vibrancy" lacking in most 10.1" netbooks. Macbook Airs remain the "gold-standard" however. + Nice keyboard feel - nicely spaced, almost full-sized keyboard with "island" style keys with good space between the keys. The sound is very weak even when the volume is turned all the way up, and it is tinny. I tried doing a webcam chat and I have difficulty understanding what the other person is saying. Of course things are fine if you use earphones. I should not have to do this - particularly when the sound is fine on my old netbook! And I know that good audio quality is possible on such a thin device, because I have great quality on my tablet.The problem is .. I don't see anything comparable (11-12 inches, Celeron B877-level performance) from anyone else for anywhere near the same price. What is an IPS Panel?
IPS (in-plane switching) technology is the highest performance panel technology available in the LCD displays. The specifications and details of IPS panel technology are considered best for high accuracy in color, contrast and wide viewing angles. IPS panels offer excellent picture reproduction and suitable for photography, graphics design, movie production, CAD/CAM engineering, medical and security applications.  | ViewSonic’s proprietary Eco-mode function comes standard with the VP2365-LED. When you don’t need all of the powerful features VP2365-LED has to offer, you have the option to reduce the monitor’s brightness, save energy, save the planet and prolong the lamp life. You can select one of the “Optimize” or “Conserve” options and save up to 40% energy. Especially under low ambient light conditions, adjusting the brightness will improve visibility by reducing eye fatigue. Reducing brightness will also prolong the monitor’s lamp life, improving your return on investment. |
Efficiency and comfort
Ergonomics is defined as profession of designing tools and work environments to best accommodate human performance and behavior. The VP2365-LED is one of the great examples of an ergonomically designed tool. Based on your height, chair and desk conditions, you can adjust it up and down for 5.3 inches, swivel it 360°, or tilt it 20° degrees, whatever makes you more comfortable.
Also, when designing a portrait mode image or a document (such as a flyer or a magazine page), you can rotate the monitor 90° and utilize your 23” screen size at its full extent. You can also adjust your graphics card settings so that all your graphics are rotated 90° as well.

The monitor arrived in perfect shape, and upon turning it on, there were no dead pixels at all -- First A+. The unit was very easy to calibrate using Spyder 3 Express, although the colors were pretty close right out of the box -- Second A+. IPS panels are wonderful, and I could never go back to the cheap panels where you have to be within 3 or 4 inches of a certain seating position to see a full screen image without dimming or color change. Now I can slump back in my chair and relax, and the screen image doesn't change -- Third A+. I use the monitor for Photoshop CS5 work, along with Qimage Ultimate, the great printing software that becomes indispensable along with a fine monitor such as this. I can get an image just right, then print with Qimage Ultimate managing the colors, and I already know exactly how the print will look. A calibrated monitor like this one is... Compared to the latest high end apple monitor, this unit is .3 delta E better (several retestings just to make sure). Both are excellent, but every calibration is slightly better with the this model...pretty amazing when you consider the price difference. All the IPS monitors, by the way, have difficulty with one color of soft blue..this one is no exception. But it is no worse than any other I have tested. LCD monitors have always annoyed me with the color shifting/distortion that occurs because you're not looking at it straight on. Thankfully, this monitor is free from that annoyance. It also has a 5ms response time, which means little to no motion blur. The only drawback to this monitor is that the blacks are not true blacks, but it is only noticeable in scenes with large amounts of black. It was enough to cost one star in my rating. However, those first two features were more important to me than having true black. Hence, I am very pleased with this monitor, and would still purchase it if I had to make the decision over again. |
